Morris Explorers Satchels – sensory bags

Designed with SEND families in mind, these sensory bags have been created to help provide fun and interactive ways to explore William Morris Gallery. They are free to use and have been developed to help eliminate barriers to access for SEND visitors and families. Inspired by William Morris’s satchel (which you can see on display at the Gallery), they include a sensory map, a visual story, and Visual Vocabulary cards (for people with non-verbal communication systems) that you can also download before your arrival. All of these are designed to help build confidence in families before and during your visit.

6 bags available at a time from our Front Desk. No age limit.

Getting around

There are two manual wheelchairs onsite for visitors to use. To reserve a wheelchair contact the Gallery by calling 020 8496 1470 or use the Enquire button below to email the team.

The Acanthus room on the second floor is often used for talks and private hire. It has a narrow doorway of 63 cm in width. If you are attending an event in this room and have any concerns about the width of your wheelchair, call 020 8496 1470 or use the Enquire button below. Where possible, extra assistance can be provided or the event can be relocated.

Parking access

The Gallery has three parking bays available for Blue Badge holders on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday during opening hours.

The Gallery gates are kept locked to prevent unauthorised parking. Blue badge holders are therefore asked to call the Gallery on 020 8496 1470 when they arrive and someone will come and let you in. If you do not have a mobile phone please call in advance of your visit.

There are no spaces available on Saturdays due to the Lloyd Park Market. Blue Badge holders can use the ‘pay & display’ parking at Bedford Road car park, free of charge.

You can find more detailed information in the Gallery’s AccessAble guide
