A piece of painted, ‘antique’, white glass depicting the head of a young man (presumably David), facing right. The head is identical to the head of David in a window in the north chancel chapel of Merstham Parish Church in Surrey, designed by Holiday and executed by Powell’s c.1878. It seems probable that this head was rejected by the glass-painter because of defects in the firing of the pigment of the hair. The painting was originally from the collection of Thomas Cowell (1870-1949), glass-painter at James Powell & Sons from the 1880s to the 1930s
