This was one of Morris’s last repeating pattern designs. Brocatelle is a woven fabric in which the raised pattern, often metal threads, show through the ribbed surface. Morris used a jacquard loom to produce this at Merton Abbey. The design was exhibited at the 1888 Arts & Crafts Exhibition.
