Dürer’s Knight, Death, and the Devil is one of three large prints of 1513–14 known as his Meisterstiche (master engravings). The Victorian art critic John Ruskin advised aspiring artists to ‘buy an Albrecht Dürer — and copy it until you can’t look at anything else’. William Morris and Burne-Jones spent hours poring over this image.
