Bird and Anemone was designed by William Morris in 1881 and issued as both a wallpaper and printed cotton at approximately the same time. The narrow upright rectangular repeat (66 x 26.7cm) suggests it was however probably first intended as a textile design.
This version was printed in 1962 using original Morris & Co. blocks by the firm Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd., who acquired the blocks from Morris & Co. when they closed in 1940. The Sanderson’s colourway number ‘511 — G’ is stamped on verso.
