William Morris registered this Marigold pattern in 1875 as a wallpaper, but it possibly dates from c.1873 since it appears in Jeffrey & Co. records between Jasmine (1872) and Lily (1874) wallpapers. It was also registered as a chintz design later in 1875. This version was printed by Arthur Sanderson & Sons, the firm bought the original Morris & Co. wallpaper woodblocks when the firm closed in 1940 and continued to print from the blocks.
The repeat size of this version is 26.7 x 26.7 cm. Stamped on right edge: ‘MORRIS & Co’. Verso stencilled: ‘D 81 –‘
