This note provides the recipe for Willima Morris’s green paint, used at 7 Hammersmith Terrace. The house belonged to Emery Walker, and subsequently his aughter Dorothy Walker, who were good friend sof the Morris’s. The note is by Dorothy Walker, and written on the reverse of a letter headed writing sheet. The note reads as follows:
Chrome Green (the brightest shade), oxide of chromium would be better- more durable- but it is dear. The genuine chrome green muset be used, not the mixture so-called of pruss. blue & chrome yell. The other ingredients, white, chrome, yellow, (orange & pale chrome, one or both according to the tint required), blacks Bring forward with white if you are begininning de Novo but use green “ground” (this is technical term) as nearly the exact colour required as possible.
