Overglaze blue and brown on 5 inch tin-glazed tile with Sandyroyd pattern. The design based on a medieval floor tile pattern, and was first used by Morris for a fireplace at Spencer Stanhope’s house, Sandroyd.
The design appears to be to have been repeated only once. According to Richard and Hilary Myers, Sandroyd Pattern was unsuccessful because the design causes an illusionary distortion, with square or rectangular areas appearing to lean to the right.
