The woodcut was made by Thomas Clark, and appears to be based on a photograph of William Morris taken by Abel Lewis, Isle of Man in 1880, showing bust length portrait of Morris in jacket amd shirt with head turned slightly to left. The print is signed in pencil by Clark, and numbered 4/25. It was given to Vestry House Museum by the artists, and then transferred to the William Morris Gallery in 1950.
