Kate Faulkner designed a printed cotton for Morris & Co. also called Peony, the design was registered on 22 June 1877. The textile design has a similar motif to this tile, which is one of a two tile repeat (see C264a) suggesting they were designed around the same time. It was hand painted in tin-glazed earthenware using Dutch blank tiles.
