Brass hanging lamp, the lower part with plain glazed panels, the upper part a drum with pierced brass work of thistle pattern, a broad rim above the drum, surmounted by brass balls. The open work repousee pattern of thistle leaves and heads is identical to that found on the drum of another hanging lamp now at the Colchester & Ipswich Museum (COLEM:1932.66), gifted by Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo. The Colchester example is illustrated in The Studio, Vol XVI, 1899 ‘Mr Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo and the Century Guild’ by Aymer Vallance, p.191.
