Garden Tulip was designed by William Morris in 1885. The pattern consists of vertical ribbons of tulip stems meandering over a background of small foliage and flowers. The pattern was also used on printed cotton and linen under the name ‘Medway’. This version of the wallpaper was printed by the firm Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd., who acquired the original wallpaper woodblocks from Morris & Co. when they closed in 1940.
