William Morris designed Bruges wallpaper between 1887-1888, and it was published from 1888 onwards. The large diagonal pattern consists of decorative ribbons intertwined with large flowers and foliage. The repeat size is 61cm.
This version was printed in 1968, using original Morris & Co. blocks by the firm Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd., who acquired the blocks from Morris & Co. when they closed in 1940. The orange and pink colourway was chosen by Sanderson to appeal to their modern customer and reflects the 1960’s fashion for clashing colours. The reverse has the Sanderson colourway number ‘138750 Bruges’ and the price 58 shillings.
