William Morris designed Bruges wallpaper between 1887-1888, and it was published from 1888 onwards. The large diagonal pattern consists of decorative ribbons intertwined with large flowers and foliage.
This version was printed in 1950, using original Morris & Co. blocks by the firm Arthur Sanderson & Sons Ltd., who acquired the blocks from Morris & Co. when they closed in 1940. A printed label on the reverse gives the Sanderson colourway number ‘Bruges 421’.
