In 1922 a dinner party held at the Majestic Hotel in Paris attended by Diaghilev, Stravinsky, Proust, Joyce and Picasso is now celebrated as the date of high modernism. Arguably an equally important event, the exhibition of Klee, Kandinsky the Bauhaus artists, took place in Calcutta in 1922. Professor Partha Mitter asks why this major transcultural moment is hardly remembered today.
